Two Saturdays ago (March 24), André, who is a member of the DCU Hiking Club, invited me to join them for a one-day trip to Glendalough, in the Wicklow Mountains. Apparently, most of the students who joined the Hiking Club at the beginning of the year got scared after the first hike. Since now there are very few of them going to the trips, non-members are always welcome.
After breakfast, we bought some stuff to eat and met the members of the club on campus and waited for a while until the bus arrived. There couldn't be more variety: three Irish, three Germans, three French, two Asians and me. For once in my life, there were more boys than girls (just one of the guides and me) and I was the only Spanish. We took a small but comfortable bus and spent the whole way to Glendalough, which was a bit winding, chatting.
The plan was simple -walking around the woods, having lunch and going up one of the mountains (I nearly screamed when I knew it), exploring the village and then meeting in a pub to take the bus back to DCU. However, it was worthwile just to see one of the most breathtaking landscapes I'd ever seen.
Near this ruins you can see in the last pic, we had lunch. André and I were the last most of the time, since we had to stop every X seconds to take pictures. Well, except for a moment in which I was the first one on a row while we were on the top of the mountain... luckily, we just had to walk on, so we didn't get lost.
After the real hike, we walked through the village for a while... and had an ice-cream.
I know you will be wondering why I have a pic of a cemetery... It's simple. Here in Ireland you find one every two steps, but they don't look scary, they have something special, I don't know what it is...
Then we met the rest in the pub and took the bus back. During the trip back, I was texted by Outi 5 times... so I ended up having ice-cream and biscuits with her in her place.
Isn't that a nice way to finish the reading week? And now, a small present for you... a pic of the whole Hiking Club!
